MINIMIZNG EXAM FALURE – GAPS ACADEMY
Against the perturbing level of students failure in examinations,
gaps academy, an education driven venture recently launched a free interactive,
integrated multimedia pre-university
examination preparatory programme.
The programme, targets students writing exams in
Ghana, sierra lone and Gambia.
Bothered by the ugly situation, in which the 2012
utme results revealed that less than 5% of the 1,503,931 candidates passed the
exams and the 2012 waec results which confirmed 38.81% of the 1, 69587
candidates had credits in five subjects and above, including English language
and mathematic with reasons linked to lack of access to quality teaching, among
other factors. Gaps academy takes a stand against the trend while serving as a
vantage platform for transformation in the education sector.
In its recent briefing at the excellence hotel ogba,
gaps noted that the program is customized to improve exam success rate and
reduce incidence of exam malpractice and exam failure.
The programme was created for 6 challenging
subjects- mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, English language and
economics of which students have the privilege to watch hundreds of video
classes in these subjects at their convenience.
Students can
also take daily practice test on each subject during this period using
intelligent computer based testing application. The quiz application can be
assessed by visiting www.quiz.gapsacademy.com
The quizzes are timed, randomized and the results of
each quiz are immediately displayed. The students can review each question to
see the right answer. More so, there is a permanent record of each quiz of
which student can track and monitor his performance. Tied to this, students can
ask questions and receive answers via sms (+23480812022809), blackberry
messenger (bb pin 28c364ff), whatapp (+23480812022809), email (askateacher@gapsacademy.com),
facebook ( www.facebook.com/gapsacademy)
and twitter (www.twitter.com/gapsacademy),
among others.
Speaking at the press session held in ajah Lagos,
founder and director of learning gaps academy, dr. Anderson Uvie-Emegbo said “
there is so much talk about the state of education, many have asked for a state
of emergency to be declared but what we are telling everyone is to take a step,
identify an area of problem and start doing something to stop it because problems
affecting education will not be solved with a single approach so we are not the
solution, we are part of the solution and we are asking everyone to rethink
their focus around education”.
He added, “ we are their study companion, we are not
a replacement for the school they attend, we are a complement, we are saying
that learning does not need to end at 2pm or 4pm, that learning should be continuous.
If a child in makurdi has a question by
8pm that he needs answers to, he can reach out to us through any channel he has
access to. We are calling on Nigerians and every responsible arms of government
to step out and do something positive for proper development of education”. He
however called for embracement of his education transformation program.
“the story of gaps has just started, we are looking
for more stakeholders involvement across, we have formats for print, we have
format for TV, for online mobile, for radio and for offline and communities that
do not even have internet access, we have all sorts of formats so that users will have the freedom to to choose and
learn”.
