Ogun plans mass burial for unclaimed corpses

The Ogun State Government said on Wednesday that it would soon conclude arrangements to give mass burial to abandoned corpses littering hospital morgues in the state. The government also said it had closed down about 66 illegal clinics and sealed off 65 illegal pharmaceutical premises across the state in its war against quackery.   It further said 700,000 children between the ages of six and 59 months had benefited from Vitamin A supplementation to boost their immunity against childhood diseases, while two million others were immunised with Oral Polio Vaccine in the last one year. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, said this during the commencement of ministerial press briefing to mark the second year anniversary of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration in the state. VALUE OF CERTIFICATE OVER COMPETENCE

  A worrying situation of employers valuing content of certificates over competence or hands on the job is no doubt an inspiration sucker of our youths.   This problem which has been in existence several years back has proven to be stagnant as industries, companies or manufacturers no longer consider or value potential competence of employees but value their certificates. This phenomenon has affected several students psychologically as they centre their mind on ensuring that they graduate from school with good results in order to compete in the industrial world. Over-emphasis on paper qualification has been the yardstick for employment and this has discouraged concentration on vocational training and relocated the mentality of large number of youth to taking formal education as a must. Man shoots himself dead before children in nursery school

PARIS  - A man in his 60s shot himself dead with a sawn-off shotgun Thursday in the hall of a Paris nursery school in front of about a dozen children and an adult, police said. The man, who was not affiliated with the school, killed himself after walking into the school near the Invalides monument in central Paris. The identity of the man or his motive were not immediately clear, police said. The nursery school is a private Catholic institution which also has primary and secondary sections. A psychological support team has been sent to the school. (AFP)

MINIMIZNG EXAM FALURE – GAPS ACADEMY

LASPOTECH SHUTS DOWN EXTERNAL CAMPUSES

Following the instruction of lagos state government, that all tertiary institutions close down external campuses, Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu which is inclusive has complied to the instruction as revealed by the rector of the institution dr Abdul Azeez Lawal while addressing journalist.   The rector, Abdul Azeez Lawal explained that the annexes no longer admit fresh students but still operates the external campus system in order to allow the current students complete their programmes respectively. “We have complied with the directive of the lagos state government for closure of all external campuses. We have to manage the process carefully to allow students already in the programme to graduate. We have written to all our accredited representatives that all annexes are cancelled.” he said.
