A property magnate, Cecil Chao Sze-tsung, one of Hong Kong’s wealthiest men has reserved a “marriage bounty” of £40 million (about N10 Billion) for the man who successfully woos and wins the heart of his lesbian daughter to marry her. Fresh news emerging from the case of allegedly stolen kidneys in a clinic in Bauchi has revealed that a Medical Board of Inquiry into the issue has recommended the suspension of the clinic’s license. It will be recalled that sometime in August, the bizarre, yet touching, story was told of how the two kidneys of a patient, one Mallam Abubakar Buba were allegedly illegally removed at Aminchi Medical Clinic in Bauchi metropolis. The case, yet to be resolved, has generated more developments in recent times. The patient/victim at some point got financial assistance for the treatment (dialysis) of his condition. The board looking into the issue also recommended the immediate referral of Dr. Sani Adamu, the clinic’s owner and his two nurses, Messrs Mijinyawa Abdullahi and Yusuf Zangina, to their professional bodies for further investigation and appropriate sanctions. According to space.com, “if all goes according to plan, a helium-filled balloon will lift off from Roswell, N.M., on Oct. 8 and carry Felix Baumgartner’s custom-built capsule to an altitude of 120,000 feet (36,576 meters). Students of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), protested over alleged sexual harassment of female students, molestation and extortion by some staffs of the institution. The students, numbering about 2,000, blocked traffic at eleven-eleven bus stop on their way to the government house, Calabar to register their grievances. Some of the placards carried by the students had inscriptions such as, ‘sexual harassment of female students,’ female molestation,’ extortion of money from students,’ ‘No better CRUTECH, no better lecture hall,’ CRUTECH students Union president, Mr Ekong Eka accused the state government of neglecting students of the university, adding that two months ago, some group of people came to the school to tell them that government wanted to pay them bursary. The National university Commission (nuc), the body charged with the responsibility of monitoring the activities of university in the country, has banned the conduct of re-sit examinations in Nigerian university. The nuc, in a statement by its Chief Information Officer, Mrs Bukola Olatunji, in abuja, on Wednesday, frowned on the discovery that some universities conduct supplementary examination for their students, in addition to regular semester examinations. The commission therefore warned that the conduct of such examinations was in violation of extant rules and regulations, and urged all universities involved to stop the practice henceforth or face sanction.
