generator fumes kill two in ppl
tragedy struck at no 18 bolantan street off doris road, ppl lagos as a
couple died early monday in their sleep. it was however obvious that
their death was as a result of them inhailing fumes of their generator
they put on before going to bed which led to suffocation in their one
room apartment.
investigation gathered that after the couple took their dinner they retired to bed for the night but at dawn, neighbors discovered that while the generator was still running, neither the husband nor the wife came out.
this inquisitive development forced the neighbors to forcefully break into the apartment after much banging on the door only to find the man, mr ogbonna nkwesi, 28 and his wife mrs ogbonna chioma, 25 stone dead in their apartment.
the gory sight resulted in an alarm being raised which attracted other neighbors while other contacted the police
the remains of the deceased were taken to an undisclosed hospital in Lagos for autopsy. a doctor who was present at the scene of the occurrence, identified himself as alejo busari added that people are ignorant of the fact that generator fumes could be deadly because it contains carbon monoxide which is detrimental to us all. '' as a matter of fact generator fumes are deadly. it can kill in minutes as a result of suffocating its victims. the content of a generator fume is carbon monoxide and it can cause the lungs to tissue''. he said.
the divisional police officer of ojo police station who confirmed the incident said the police were already investigating the case.
