POLLS: 34,000 EX-CORPS MEMBERS TO BE EMPLOYED BY INEC AS AD-HOC STAFF – NYSC DG

 
According to him, out of the 168,000 corps members that were trained by the Independent National Electoral Commission to participate in the coming elections, 34,000 have passed out and can no longer participate as corps members but as ad-hoc staff.
He said, “We have 168,000 (corps members) that registered for participation in the election. The 2014 Batch A that registered passed out on February 19. Our plan was to use them for the elections; but because of the postponement of the elections, we realised that we can’t use them again as that would amount to breaching NYSC rules.
“They were about 34,000. We wrote to INEC to explain that they would be passing out and that we could not hold on to them. Because they were passing out, it wouldn’t be right for them to participate as corps members. But because they have been trained, we told INEC that if they wish, they could employ them as adhoc staff but they won’t wear NYSC uniform”.

Fulani Herdsmen Kill 3, Burn Houses In Nasarawa

Three people were yesterday killed, while several houses were razed in some Tiv settlements in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. Among the three persons killed was Personal Assistant to the state Commissioner for Community and Rural Development, Mr. Godwin Mbatsav who was said to have met his untimely death at Abuni village, while searching for his wife who was among those displaced when some of the gunmen invaded the area. Eyewitnesses said the corpse of one of the victims, identified as James Orjime, had been deposited at Sandanji Hospital mortuary in Lafia. The third victim has also been identified as Mrs. Timbee Unzughul of Gidan Chiakaa of Jangaru ward in Awe Local Council. Her step son, Christoper Unzughul, escaped with gunshot injuries and is reportedly receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the state. OSAGIE ASSUMES OFFICE AS SHELL MD

A new Managing Director for Shell Petroleum Development Company, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, has assumed office, succeeding Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, who retired on Saturday after 36 years of service.
