LASU student leaders ask parents to shun new fee regime

LAGOS—STUDENT leaders in Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Wednesday , advised parents not to pay the new fee regime imposed on fresh students of the institutions, describing the fee as outrageous and illegal.
They claimed that it was neither approved by the state House of Assembly nor the school’s governing council.
Speaking on behalf of others, President of LASU Students’ Union, Mr. Durojaiye Olalekan, declared that the entire LASU students had said no to the payment of fee by the new students.
According to him, the students are opposed to the new fee because “the ad-hoc committee set up by the Lagos State House of Assembly to examine the fee increment is yet to come out with a resolution, therefore the purported increase is illegal and unconstitutional to implement.
“The outrageous new fee regime did not go through due process as it was never approved by the Lagos State House of Assembly and the school governing council (Senate).
“All parents of the new students are urged to support the students’ union resolution and to disregard the payment deadline of the university management which is insensitive and fraudulent.”
That the deadline of the university management is too short so, is unrealistic and unjust as many of our parents are pauper and cannot race the money even in 5years.
The Lagos State University Students Union say no to abnormal increment and also advise the University Management, and Lagos State government to stop the victimisation, exploitation, but engage in dialogue in resolving the current unrest.”
