Innervation of Dentin and mechanisms of Pain Sensation Nerve supply to the coronal pulp is especially rich. It forms a subodontoblastic plexus of nerve (plexus of Raschkow). Unmyelinated nerves from this plexus penetrate between the odontoblasts and enter the predentin. Although most unmyelinated nerves appear to terminate in the predentin, some enter the dentinal tubules.Nerve endings containing many small vesicles and mitochondria have been identified in close association with the odontoblast ceil body and the odontoblast process in dentin. The majority of these nerves are afferent somatosensory pain fibres. Nerves growth factor and its receptor have been localized in relatively high amounts in the odonblastic and subodontoblastic layers of the coronal pulp. The presence of nerve growth factor may be responsible for concentrating nerve ending in the vicinity of the odontoblast. Experimental evidence has shown that nerves grow toward concentration of nerve growth factor. Because the c...

Periodontal traumatism Excessive occlusal forces result in typical changes in the periodontal ligament and also bone. If these abnormal occlusal forces are chronic and repeated over a long period of time, the periodontal ligament gradually becomes denser and the periodontal space widens. The alveolar bone becomes denser also and the teeth will show obvious linear patterns, with definite facets on the crowns of teeth. An acute traumatic force sufficient to produce traumatic injury to the periodontium also results in rather specific changes in the tooth attachment apparatus. For example a force which tips a tooth sharply to the buccal side results in a crushing of the periodontal ligament fibres and perhaps of the alveolar crest bone. The blood vessels in the involved area become thrombosed, and edema and extravasations of blood occurs. On the opposite side of the tooth there is often a tear of the periodontal ligament and sometimes cementum or bone is torn loose. ...

MATURATION- progress towards attainment of full growth and development. GROWTH- process of increase in size by multiplication of cells and accretion of tissues. DEVELOPMENT- all changes that takes place from conception to death. I.e. - a progression from a lower to higher state of complexity with corresponding changes in function. E.g. development of dentition – this begins with induction – matrix deposition- mineralization- eruption- emergence in the mouth- getting to occlusal level- wearing/ attrition- migration. BASIS FOR HUMAN FACIAL FORMS Human face is unusual when compared with the face of most other mammals. It posses a large rounded head with a rather bizarre combination of facial features. FACTORS INFLUENCING GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT 1 hereditary factors 2enviromental factors HEREDITARY FACTORS- sex, race, family traits, chromosomal abnormality endocrines factor and inborn error of metabolism. ENVIROMENTAL FACTORS- social economy factor, birth orde...

LAGOS—STUDENT leaders in Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Wednesday , advised parents not to pay the new fee regime imposed on fresh students of the institutions, describing the fee as outrageous and illegal. They claimed that it was neither approved by the state House of Assembly nor the school’s governing council. Speaking on behalf of others, President of LASU Students’ Union, Mr. Durojaiye Olalekan, declared that the entire LASU students had said no to the payment of fee by the new students. According to him, the students are opposed to the new fee because “the ad-hoc committee set up by the Lagos State House of Assembly to examine the fee increment is yet to come out with a resolution, therefore the purported increase is illegal and unconstitutional to implement. “The outrageous new fee regime did not go through due process as it was never approved by the Lagos State House of Assembly and the school governing council (Senate). “All parents of the new student...

Students of the Lagos State University, Ojo, have embarked on indefinite protest following the increment in their tuition fee by the state government. The protest started on Monday, with the students barricading all major roads leading to the main campus of the institution. As at time of filing this report, academic activities have been paralysed at the institution, while the students insisted that normalcy will not return until the Governor Babatunde Fashola-led state government reverted its decision on the matter. In a chat with Campus Square , former secretary-general of the institution’s students union, Keye Ewebiyi, said it is disheartening that government has to increase tution fee of fresh students by 725 per cent. He said although the fee of old students was not increased, “injustice to one is injustice to all, so we will not fold our arms and allow this to come to pass.” Campus Square gathered that new students of the institution are now expected to pay fee...
